- 29 years’ experience working with children with physical disabilities and their families
- Co-author of “Integrating Augmentation and Alternative Communication into Principles of Conductive Education”. This book has been sold in many countries throughout the world and has been used as a text in undergraduate and post graduate university courses
- Developed a world first approach to developing strategies within a conductive education framework which addresses the needs of children with physical disabilities and complex communication needs
- Develops resources to support others to implement Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display (PODD) communication books and page sets for speech generating devices. (2005 to present)
- Provides speech pathology support at the Communication Resource Centre which functions at secondary and tertiary level to enhance the inclusion of children with complex communication needs (2004 to present)
- Contributed to the development of content ‘Augmentative and Alternative Communication and Cerebral Palsy’ CD for a multimedia training package “Students with Physical Impairment” being developed by Education Queensland.
- Guest lectured on cerebral palsy in the Disorders of speech and swallowing subject for the undergraduate speech pathology students at Latrobe University (2006 – 2009)
- By invitation, consulted to the Center for Independence in Chicago, USA (2008)
- By invitation, presented a seminar for ISAAC – Israel, Dynamic Auditory scanning displays (2005)
- Invited by AGOSCI (Australian Group on Severe Communication Impairment) to present a series of workshops around Australia. (2004)
- Course co-ordinator for Griffith University Master of Special Education. Students with physical impairment: Augmentative and Alternative Communication (2003)
- By invitation, presented a series of seminars in Norway, Sweden and Finland (2003)
- Presented workshops and papers at International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC) conferences in Denmark (2002), Washington (2000), Dublin (1998) and Canada (1996)
- By invitation, consulted to a program and provided a week long training seminar for professionals, a weekend seminar for parents and evening lectures for interested professionals and parents in Calgary Canada (2000)
- By invitation, provided training seminars and consultancy to develop Alternative and Augmentative Communication within programs applying principles of conductive education at the PASE Centre in Aylesbury, United Kingdom (1999)
