The Cerebral Palsy Education Centre (CPEC) has a funding partnership with the Victorian Department of Education: Children & Early Childhood for the funding of CPEC Early Intervention Education Services (ages 12months – 6 years of age) and also with the Department of Education & Training for the funding of Extended Education After School Programs (ages 6 to 18). In 2007 the Department of Education & Training requested that CPEC develop a specialist education & training course for teachers and therapists in the Victoria education sector who work with children with cerebral palsy and like disabilities. Since its inception the demand for the course has grown significantly whereby the allocation of time provided by the senior CPEC staff to the courses has enabled children in main stream schools to have their education services greatly enhanced. This CPEC education and training course has become a model for future expansion.

At CPEC, the delivery of the education services for Early Intervention (12 months to 6 years of age) costs on average $13,000 per child per year to receive on average 8 hours of service per week for 40 weeks. CPEC receives the State average amount of $4,850 per child for the year. The $8,000 plus shortfall is met by family fees. However the CPEC Committee of Management has limited the family fees to $3,000 per year. The shortfall of $5,000 per child (50 children x $5,000) or $250,000 to CPEC for the year is intended to be offset each year with the families, staff and community supporters being involved in organizing fundraising events and seeking donations from the broader community. This is an ever present challenge that never stops.

FIBONACCI STONE OFFER TO CPEC FAMILIES - a new initiative for CPEC Families to receive free design consultation, plan preparation and project management service for homes that need alterations or additions to make their home more suitable to children with special needs.

"Given my personal experience with Cerebral Palsy, it is very rewarding to be able to help children in similar situations" said Fibonacci Director Lee Kenos. Read more here.
