Tassie for Tyler

Clarke Island to Little Musselroe Bay (approx. 25km)

James and Steve left Clarke Island at 6.45 this morning bound for Little Musselroe Bay.

Due to strong tidal flow, the boys had to drift east and then west allowing for a tidal change half way. The conditions along the centre were quite rough and smoothed out once they approached Swan Island for an easy cruise into Little Musselroe Bay.

The boys reached the shore at 11am to a warm welcome from loved ones and a plentiful supply of food and beverages.

A big thanks to Josh at the Gladstone police station for the use of his facilities which allowed the boys to freshen up before boarding their flight home.

A final thanks to Phil for the ration packs. The snacks kept them going during the day and the beef and green bean and lamb casserole kept them going at night.

The final thoughts from the boys for those thinking of attempting the gruelling paddle across Bass Strait:

* Think long and hard about it
* Ensure that you have undertaken meticulous preparation and planning, and finally
* Have a psychological evaluation :-)

20 Mar 2010 - 05 Apr 2010

Victoria Police’s Leading Senior Constables James Jenkinson and Steve Wigg have undertaken some tough challenges in their life.

The pair conquered the Kokoka trail, carrying their own backpacks of course, completed the Murray Marathon and have faced many challengers in their combined 35 years of policing.

Tthe Force Response Unit members face their biggest challenge yet, kayaking the 330 kilometres across the Bass Strait from Victoria to Tasmania.

And behind the paddle is a very worthy cause, they are kayaking for 3-year-old cerebral palsy sufferer Tyler Parfuss, a family friend of Ldg Sen Const Jenkinson.

“We are both always up for a challenge and we think this one has a great cause behind it,” Ldg Sen Const Jenkinson

“We hope to raise both awareness and funds for the Cerebral Palsy Education Centre by doing this paddle, we’re doing this for Tyler.”

Friends and family will be tracking the pair online at http://www.everydayhero.com.au/tassie_for_tyler.

March 2010 - Chain Reaction Visits CPEC

The Chain Reaction crew have jumped on their bikes to once again raise funds for charity. Last year they covered over 1000kms of scenic Tassie, this year they are starting at Port Macquarie and riding all the way to sunny Noosa. In
2009 they raised $230,000 for CPEC which went toward our new education and training extension.

In preparation for their ride, last Saturday they took off from CPEC at 6.30am to ride up to the Dandenongs and back, covering over 100km. On return the team were given a morning tea and a tour through our nearly finished building. They enjoyed seeing CPEC and meeting some of our families and kids.

Ingrid Blaser was on hand to do formal greetings shaking everyone's hands, whilst Tyler Parfuss the youngest member of the group got a bit more personal giving the team lots of cuddles.

The CPEC kids and families wish everyone in Chain Reaction safe traveling and heaps of enjoyment on their epic journey.
