CPEC will be running three training sessions tailored towards Kindergarten and Daycare staff. The team presenting this information includes a physiotherapist, speech pathologist and occupational therapist.
Inclusion of Children with Physical Disabilities in Kindergarten and Daycare Settings (online)
PART 1: This session covers topics including:
- An overview of cerebral palsy and like conditions,
- Ways to enable children to participate actively (this will include some useful equipment);
- Practical ideas for implementation of activities in the pre-school environment,
- Supporting children with physical challenges to safely eat and drink

Communicating and AAC: Kindergarten and Daycare Training
PART 2: Communicating in Kindergarten and Daycare (online)
This session is really useful for those working with children whose speech is unclear or who use an alternative communication method to speech or use other types of communication as well as speech
This session covers:
- Ways to support children whose speech is difficult to understand
- Introduction to AAC (augmentative and alternative communication)
- Supporting children who have complex communication needs to use a range of ways (multimodal) to communicate
- Practical ideas for implementing AAC in the pre-school environment
- Practical ideas for supporting interactions for children who have complex communication needs and their peers in the pre-school environment
PART 3: AAC Kindergarten & Daycare Training - Practical Component
This practical component of the training will be held at CPEC, Glen Waverley, and is an opportunity to get hands-on experience using PODD communication books and PODD page sets on speech generating devices.
To join Part 3, you will be required to complete Part 2 of the training to ensure you have the necessary foundational knowledge.
This training will be tailored towards staff supporting children who use PODD communication systems (books and/or devices) in the pre-school setting.
